Montblanc pen

Part 1: How to tell if your pen is a Montblanc
------------------------------------------------------------
The first thing I look for in the pen is the serial number. Almost all Montblanc pens have serial numbers on the ring connected to the clip. Here are a few pictures of where to look:

Meisterstuck

A good price for a Meisterstuck would be about $100-$150 . I would be suspicious of anything less.

The Meisterstuck is the most commonly faked Montblanc pen so be sure to check the ring for the serial number. *Normally the number is two letters followed by seven numbers but older models might have less numbers*

It should also say "Germany" around the ring. My father buys boxes and boxes of replica Meisterstucks in Downtown LA to give as gifts so you should be really careful when you inspect your pen.

The Meisterstucks should also have writing on the ring around the bottom of the cap that says "Montblanc Meisterstuck" and sometimes "Pix". Notice how tall the letters are vertically and almost take up the entire middle section of the ring. Fake pens will be smaller or have a slightly different sized font or spacing between letters. Here's a picture of one of my real pens next to one of my fake pens:

*New Montblancs also have the word "Pix" written somewhere on them. Older ones might not so it's not the most reliable test.

Starwalkers
The small serial numbers are written on the ring around the top of the pen and should also read "Montblanc".

These are slightly more expensive pens that run from $150-$250 on Ebay. You can go to an Authorized dealer and purchase one for about $250-$350. Starwalker models are much harder to fake because of the difficult features to replicate but they do exist.

A new Starwalker will always have the Fineliner pen refill in it and can later be changed for a rollerball. If you are purchasing a new pen make sure it has the fineliner unless it was stated that the seller replaced it.

The Starwalkers also have writing under the clips and should say "Germany" under them.

Another way to tell if your pen is fake is to take it apart and shine a strong flashlight through the resin in the dark. A real Montblanc will glow because it will let light through but a fake pen will not.

If you're still not sure make sure to take your pen to an authorized dealer to check.
----------------------------------------------------
Part 2: Checking the Box and PaperworkAnother important part of your pen purchase is the Box and Service Guide with Warranty.

The booklet should contain instructions on how to service your pen and in the back it should have your warranty with the date of purchase and an Authorized dealer marking. I personally do not purchase any pens without the service manual and box because I like to think of them as part of the pen.

The boxes should have a Montblanc marking on the outside of some sorts and on the inside it should have a Montblanc logo in black ink with a white star.

----------------------------------------------------
Part 3: What to look for in an Ebay Auction

a)
The first thing I look at are the pictures. I check to see if they have good quality photos of the pen from different angles and distances. I do not like purchasing from someone who just has stock photos of a pen. If you're in doubt just message the seller and ask if they have a picture of the serial number, box, or service guide.

b) If the pictures are nice I check the feedback rating of the seller. If a seller has at least 50 feedback with a high rating you are covered for $2,000 by Paypal. If it's less then 50 the coverage is only for $200. I also like to see what other items have been sold by the seller and read what others have to say about them. If the item I'm bidding on is expensive I also check what the seller has purchased.

c)
If the feedback is good I read the description. I prefer to purchase from someone who received the pen as a gift and doesn't need the pen. These are more motivated sellers since they don't value the pen as much as a collector it results in a lower final price.

d) I then check to see if the seller is in the United States before bidding. There are many things that can go wrong with international purchases because your pen has a lot longer way to travel. It also more likely you'll get a fake from an international seller :) I also check to see if they put a retail price on the auction. If the amount they state is way overvalued then I am more likely not to buy a pen from them. Honesty is very important when purchasing online.

e) I contact the seller and ask a few basic questions just to see if they have good communication. Good communication is important when purchasing off of Ebay. If something goes wrong you want to be sure that the seller will respond to you and help you solve your problem.

If everything is in order I start bidding. I make sure I figure out the most I want to pay for the item and then bid it up to that price as early as possible. The higher the initial price early in the auction, the more it will turn away other bidders leaving less competition.

VINO CHIANTI

The rules of DOCG

Not all the wine produced in Chianti is Chianti Classico. To be eligible for a designation is not enough, in fact, from a given territory, but must also be respected all the rules laid down by production rules, which define the conditions and requirements necessary for a wine may bear the DOCG Chianti Classico.

The specification for Wine DOCG

The DOCG is the highest qualification intended and, in addition to meeting all the parameters established by the regulations for the DOC, DOCG wines undergo a second examination by winemakers and Enotecnici during bottling (DOC while the checks are carried out every 3 years).
After passing the test are issued to the producer special seals watermark, printed by the Institute State Printing and issued by the Chamber of Commerce or by the Consortium for the Protection of the bottlers, limited in number according to the quantity of hectoliters product to be placed on each bottle.
In the case of liquor, the seals are affixed to the cap, so that it can be opened without damage, and then to break only when the uncorking.
In the case of wines, however, the seal is placed on the neck of the bottle.
CHIANTI CLASSICO addition to the production, another key requirement in the basis ampelographic - they are the types of grapes that can contribute to creating a wine - which provides for a minimum of 80% Sangiovese, the red grape variety typical of the area .
Along with Sangiovese can be present in a maximum of 20%, other red grapes among the locals, as Canaiolo Colorino, and "international", such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, recommended or authorized in the production area. Among the main sensory characteristics indicated in the specification we find the ruby color that can sometimes become, according to the source, deep and intense, the odor with floral notes of violets and iris combined with the typical character of red fruits and the taste is smooth, dry, fruity, with good tannins that are refined over time to a soft velvet. Other requirements are the minimum alcohol content of 12 degrees for the young wine and 12.5 degrees for the reserve, the minimum dry extract of 24 g / l and the total acidity of 4.5 g / l. Besides this, the specification requires major inputs: for instance, states that the yield of grapes per hectare can not exceed 75 pounds after 4 years after implantation and that the yield of grapes into wine can not be more than 70 %, or 52.5 hectoliters per hectare. It also establishes that the vinification, storage and bottling must take place exclusively within the production area and home use is permitted from 1 October following the harvest. For the Reserve there is a mandatory minimum age of 24 months, including at least three in bottle. Also with regard to the label, the specification that certain rules in addition to those already established by the specific rules in force. Firstly, the label must specify: "Chianti Classico" with the specification of "Denomination of Origin Controlled and Guaranteed" to highlight the vintage of the grapes. The name of the wine can identify with that company or brand, or it may be an invented name or name of the vineyard of origin. In any case, can not be used outside the terms, fine, chosen, selected, superior, old and the like.

You're drinking Chianti original? Find out with an SMS

Piracy is a phenomenon that involves not only music, movies and software, but has always been a threat to the more traditional sectors of our economy. Among these is surely the production of Chianti Classico, long targeted by producers of wine although not satisfying the requirements were passed off as Chianti Classico.
In 2004 he was introduced labeled "Chianti Gallo Nero" and every bottle was marked with a unique serial number. Easy to imagine, however, that this seal was soon counterfeit. Recently, the Consortium has launched a service via web and SMS in real time to check the authenticity of the bottles.

By sending an SMS to 3663333603 with serial
number written on the bottle, you will know immediately if there is a bottle in front of the original or a fake.
OR ON-LINE: CLICK HERE
This is an interesting example of how new technologies related to web and mobile phones can be of great assistance to firms and sectors usually associated with traditional ways of doing business.
On the site, in addition to this useful service of "traceability" of the bottle are also available various information on culture, places and history of the prestigious and popular Italian wine.

OLIO EXTRAVERGINE D'OLIVA

EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL

In view of the information disseminated by the press these days about an alleged approval from the European Union to deodorized oils ", it is considered appropriate to make some brief details.

What is a deodorized oil? A non-edible olive oil into a product without defects but with a drawback: after the treatment can no longer be sold as extra virgin olive oil. Unless it is mixed with a share of real extra virgin fruttato.La increasing market penetration of deodorized oil is due to strong distortion of competition. Bottles "split" for extra-virgin olive oil are sold at very low prices. One huge drawback for the many producers "honest" that make olive oil who bear high costs of production, and damage to our citizens unaware that consume oil that does not have the quality and organoleptic characteristics searched.

The key to understanding whether an oil was deodorized is represented by the content of ethyl esters of fatty acids (EEAG) and methyl esters of fatty acids (MEAG). An important parameter that has a double advantage. On the one hand ensures a better quality of extra virgin olive oils, on the other allows you to combat the use of deodorized oils , which are obtained with poor material.
What are the alkyl esters? These are compounds that are formed following the degradation of damaged olives or preserved in less than ideal conditions before being processed. The result is the formation of ethyl and methyl alcohol, which can develop into alkyl esters. Since resistant to treatment, a high presence of these symptoms indicate poor quality of extra. Based on these considerations, the European Union should be incorporated in the methodology, including the analysis necessary for determining the characteristics of extra virgin olive oils marketed . This was done within the EC Regulation 61/2011 of 24 January amending Regulation (EEC) No 2568/91 on the characteristics of olive oils and olive pomace oils and analytical methods of analysis. A legislative measure the result of a political compromise between the 27 member countries and lasted for years in which Italy has played a leading role thanks to the efforts of all institutions.
An important measure to protect food safety and protection of quality production, has been accused by some of the media who considered him as a "clearance" fake oil that actually authorizes the condiments "deodorant."
In fact the opposite is true.
In fact, if before the entry into force of EC Regulation 61/2011 was not possible to assess analytically whether or not an oil had been "deodorized", now, fortunately, the European Union will have a new analytical tool that provides just the 'opportunity to identify the "fraud" relating to the marketing of oil "deodorized" that previously went unnoticed by not having to detect the content of alkyl esters.
An important innovation that will come into force on 1 April 2011 when all the bottles of oil enter the EU market will be subjected to this new analysis, introduced in order to "thwart" the swindle of the deodorized oils and not to authorize them.

With regard to the maximum limit set out in Annex I of alkyl esters of EU Regulation of 24 January, it should be noted that under the new legal basis introduced by the Union, may be subject to re-discussion and improvement after the application experience the new rules.
What would have been very different if, as happened before the new EU regulation, the above qualitative analysis for determining the characteristics of extra virgin olive oil had not been authorized. In such a case would not have discussed the limits and at the same time, the widespread fraud of "deodorization" of oil would have had no chance of being identified.

ROLEX

This guide is the result of research online and is not linked to the SPA ROLEX

The quality of a counterfeit watch can vary depending on how much you pay. An imitation from € 20 will have a specified quality
lower compared to that costs € 400. This type of counterfeiting is the most insidious applied to watchmaking
because it can lead, in the user less skilled and cunning, the conviction of being in front of a clock
completely original.
The advice and insights that will follow will focus
Rolex watches only, since this is the
brand with the highest number of imitations on the market.
. If you have any doubts on the clock, you are buying does not buy, the only way to be sure that you are not
buying a cheap imitation Rolex is going to a dealer or dealers to rely on the
proven reputation and experience
If you're considering buying a Rolex watch, remember that
must be accompanied by:
a) a box-specific model
b) a series of accessories
c) an individual guarantee
If the watch comes with box, accessories and warranty,
Personally, I'd buy it, unless the seller releases
a statement of originality and legal origin.
Sample clock complete with box, accessories and warranty
BOX
All watches sold are accompanied by a
box, be wary of who sells you a watch without giving a
box. Usually the skin is packaged using high
quality wood, is also contained in an external
made of cardboard, as shown in the picture below.
Some are equipped with high-quality fake box is both
accessories, but any text will be printed on these replicas
low quality consumed and "smudged".
A box can watch without losing more than 30% of its
original value, which is why those who buy a watch,
normally, the box also holds, if a clock is not
with package most likely to be a fake.
Wooden box, cardboard outer box and Rolex
ACCESSORIES / WARRANTY
All watches are warranted bought regularly.
Once the warranty gives the serial number and the reference of
model, they must correspond exactly to the etched
clock. The contents of the box may be the following:
the warranty
This card contains the serial number
clock, the reference model and
date of purchase. The code of the reference
must match what is
on the back of the watch case.
The document holder leather
The briefcase contains all the cards
on the clock. Usually shows the
mark and the House is of the same
color of the box.
These instructions
contains specific instructions that
affecting the functioning of the clock,
as the change of date and time.
The list of service centers
The purchase receipt
shows where and when the clock was
bought, also shows how
the clock has been paid.
The seal
All Rolex watches are equipped with a red seal. Note the
color of the cord and how it appears in a frayed
fake.
THE ORIGIN
A Swiss-based Maison never sell a watch
produced in Indonesia, so if you notice that the source clock
not match the manufacturer, most likely
will be a vulgar imitation.
THE BRACELET
In a Rolex original edge of the mesh is uniform,
This is because the bracelet is constructed using three pieces of
metal. A folded piece together with two outer edges.
Watches cheaper each shirt is made of a single
piece of metal folded to create a shirt. This is
extremely easy to recognize because the quality is
extremely low.
THE RING
The ring, if moved, must match exactly with the minutes
reported on the dial. On an original watch both
signs will be perfectly aligned.
THE SECOND HAND
All genuine Rolex watches have a second hand
that moves "harmony" in the face, licking
perfect hardware. If this is or is jerky
2-3 mm shorter than we have here is a fake. The dot
light on the second hand must touch the top of the
triangle at 12, also on all the counterfeit watches
when you pull out the crown the seconds hand continues to
run, in an original watch the second hand must
stop when the crown is pulled out completely.

The minute hand
The Model Yacht-Master has a minute hand,
considerably thicker than that on all
other sports models. So to save money,
fake manufacturers use the same hands that are on
Submariner model.
original fake
The manufacturers of fake watches often use hands of wrong size and shape: the Daytona mounts a minute hand that
covers 50% of small parts, are made with fake hands obviously shorter. This is because the manufacturers of fake watches
use pieces that are available to them, very cheap. You will notice how the shape of the hands in fake is wrong: the recent models are built for Daytona hands with rounded ends, the producers of false use hands
available: in this case the hands of the Day-Date model, with squared ends
THE MICRO-ENGRAVING ON GLASS SAPPHIRE
Since 2002, Rolex began to affect a glass
mini crown, in the 6 o'clock position. This incision is
quite small and is difficult to see with the naked eye.
While, when you use a magnifying glass, profile
can be easily recognized, like the example
below.
you will notice that the engraving on the fake is like the original, but the
big difference is that the dots that make up the incision on the glass
are too small and inaccurate.
THE SERIAL AND REFERENCE engraved on the case
Probably the most accurate way to tell a Rolex
original from a fake is to identify the serial number and the number
reference engraved on the case. These special numbers
identification are engraved between lugs shall be in accordance
those printed on the guarantee and are unique to each clock.
As you can see, the engraving between the lugs of a watch
original tract has a very thin, light-reflecting
like a diamond.
Some present a fake
grainy finish also, the distance between these numbers is too
range. The manufacturers always use the same numbers false
on all watches: the serial "R863698" is widespread, and is a
fairly clear indication that you are in front of a fake.
THE ROLEX SERIAL NUMBERS
Since 1927, Rolex began to mark each case RolexOyster with a unique serial number to distinguish one from the
other. In about 1953, serial numbers reached il999.999, so Rolex instead of adding a seventh number,
did share the serial from 100,001. At the same time, Rolex, used a different system: printed inside the back of the case a symbol represented by a Roman numeral and two numbers. The Roman numerals were I, II, III, IV, and indicate in which quarter the clock had been produced, the Arabic numerals indicate the year simply by using two digits. So
the symbol III 53 meant that the watch was produced in the third quarter (eg. July-September) of 1953. This
symbol was used until around 1970. Around the early 1960's, the numbers came once again to
number 999,999, but this time it was added to the seventh issue until mid-1987, when the numbering
share reached 9,999,999.
This time, the Rolex chose to start with a letter to the number (eg. R000001). It all started
by the letter "R", and the following letters L - E - X, spelling the word ROLEX omitting the letter "O" for
prevent any confusion with the number "0". This sequence continued until November 1991 when it was
introduced new numbers with the letters N, C and D, used until 1993. In 1994, Rolex began another sequence
with the letters W, T and U, were later used letters: A, P and K. To further confuse the ideas, many of
these prefixes have operated simultaneously during the last few years, giving the idea of a large "random". Therefore, only Rolex knows exactly when a watch was produced, and the information is not disclosed. The following list is
composed of serial numbers sorted by year. By comparing with a serial number that appears on the list should be
able to date the watch with good precision, but it is not possible to know when the watch left the factory.

MAGNIFYING GLASS ON THE DATE
In the original a Rolex "Cyclope" magnify the date of 2.5

In addition, the "Cyclops", will have a sharp edge at

is grasped by the naked eye but can be perceived

THE CROWN
In a very expensive watch, what a Rolex, the crown is
